Happy Father’s Day…

Dad 6

Where would we be without dads? My sisters, brothers and I feel so blessed to have ours when so many do not. People assume some crazy things about my childhood considering the superstar musical career of my father. But the arenas with 30,000 people, backstage party life and platinum album parties were all something we were not a part of. He always told us, “I’m not Bocephus (his famous nickname), I’m daddy.” Yes, it was incredibly cool when Tom Petty would be at the studio or Johnny Cash would call the house, but we were pretty unfamiliar with the music business growing up. He was at his happiest when he had the kids on his Montana farm-showing us how to ride the four wheelers through the rugged terrain, how to throw a fishing line, how to aim our rifles for practice target shooting, and how to enjoy the outdoors with family. I adore his music, and love nothing more than the energy of seeing him on stage running around playing all those instruments and singing all of those legendary songs, but to the kids he is just Dad. I included my favorite picture of he and momma playing guitar below. Be sure to check out the videos from “Listening Pleasure.”  A few of my favorite songs and performances spanning dad’s career through the ages! Oh, and could you DIE over the baby pictures below circa 1951??!! I hope that you are lucky enough to be spending this day with the man that was your anchor…

Dear Holly, You are blessed to have a father like him. I was into country music since I was born I didnt know your fathers nickname was Bocephus. Til I was 12 and already into his music nonstop. my father told me everything bout him then presented me with tickets to see him in little rock AR. My father said he named me Bocephus cause its a hard name to live up to. I have since buried my father when I was 19. I understand what father meant. I wish to meet ur father person to person someday and you. Please give me call 9183708906

Holly- Thank you so much for sharing the pics & videos. Your grandpa was the King & your daddy’s the high prince! Listened to your dad since he started singing in the style of his dad & thru all the years. He’s made such a huge contribution to country & to music in general. Even when Nashville was telling everyone what country music should be, your daddy’s “Living Proof” that “A country boy can survive”!

Thank you Holly, I’m sure he is as proud of you as you are of him. I was lucky enough to see him perform at Sea World this year and though I love his music, all I could think about besides my favorite song was it sure would be nice to go fishing with this man up in my home town. So thank you both again for giving everyone something very special.

Holly, this is a great salute to your Dad, what a great man and entertainer. I have followed him since he was 21 years old. And have attended may of his concerts, THe most frightening part was when he had his accident in 1975.

But a Country Boy can survive and he did just that. Thanks for sharing

We love Hank Jr. and all of his music. Miss him on Monday Night Football, that was a raw deal. Everybody is entitled to an opinion whether it is voiced publically or not. Monday Night Football isn’t the same without him. Hank can bring all of his rowdy friends to our house here in East Tennessee on Douglas Lake anytime! Love you Hank!!!!!!

Holly, thank you for the beautiful insight into your personal life. I always thought that he would be like that, it is nice to see the confirmation although you do not need to say that. You have a beau family and I raised 4 children on your daddy’s music, started over, adopted 3 more and they are being raised the same, except with a little Holly, a little Kid Rock! Lots of love, Sonya

Your Dad has been my favourite entertainer since I was very young and inspired me to pick up the guitar and sing for years. First time I ever sang on stage I did, “All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down”. I recorded a disc of my own stuff in the 90’s but have no delusions of stardom although it is a very good album. It was just something I had to do before I got old. I’m glad you shared some of you and your Dad’s lives together. It’s nice to see a small piece of him as a regular man when all we as fans ever see is the showman. Like most fans I would love to meet him one day, outside the business. The likelihood of that is rather small though as I respect his privacy too much to invade. Plus I live in Alberta and he almost never comes this way although we did see his show in Calgary around 1990. Anyway, May Jesus bless you and yours with health and salvation. Hope you and Hank head this way soon.
